The centre serves as a home for students and researchers, encouraging the connection between theoretical knowledge and social, political, and cultural engagement—on campus, within the community, and across the African continent itself

As part of its activities, the centre operates two academic degree programs—an undergraduate and master’s degree in African Studies—offering a wide range of courses in the history, politics, culture, geography, art, religions, economics, and development of Africa. The centre also organizes academic and social conferences and events throughout the year, with the goal of deepening knowledge of the continent and strengthening the relationship between academia and society

The centre operates in the understanding that any form of community intervention—social, cultural, or applied—requires a deep knowledge of local history, economics, politics, and culture. Accordingly, it encourages students to develop a broad and sustainable perspective that combines critical thinking with a commitment to social action and innovation

Anatta Foundation has supported the Africa Centre since its establishment in 2009. This support enables the continuation of the centre’s academic and social activities, including international conferences, research grants for students and scholars, educational study tours in Israel and Africa, and the publication of the “Africa Now” book series in partnership with Pardes Publishing

In addition, Anatta Foundation’s support for the master’s program in Sustainable Communities in Africa enables African students to study in Israel with full funding for tuition, housing, and living expenses, thereby strengthening academic and social ties between Israel and Africa
