Hillel was established in 1991 and has supported individuals leaving the ultra-Orthodox community ever since—bridging social, educational, and cultural gaps as they integrate into broader Israeli society. The organization aspires to foster an Israel in which any young Haredi man or woman has the freedom to choose their own path and way of life, while fully realizing their personal potential.

Hillel’s mission is to serve as a warm and supportive community that welcomes those making this transition and accompanies them throughout the process of entering into mainstream society. Since its founding, Hillel has helped thousands of participants successfully integrate into the modern Israeli world—including securing housing, serving in the military or national service, completing educational gaps, developing meaningful careers, and building full and fulfilling lives.

The organization operates in partnership with the Ministry of Welfare and runs community centers in Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, Haifa, Rosh Pina, and Be’er Sheva, as well as unique emergency shelters. These community centers are the beating heart of the organization. They are led in part by individuals who themselves have made the transition, alongside professional staff and dedicated volunteers.

The centers provide a welcoming home and active social environment, offering a wide range of services and activities—from informal gatherings to tutoring, workshops, and lectures, as well as assistance with housing, education, employment, military and national service, and welfare services.

Hillel’s centers are more than meeting places—they are homes, communities, and sources of stability, offering members a sense of belonging and support within a changing and often challenging world.
