The Israel Judo Association is the official governing body representing the sport of judo in Israel. It works to advance discipline, develop athletes, and instill the value of sport within the younger generation. The association is led by an elected board composed of representatives from judo clubs across the country, and represents Israel in international sports institutions—including the International Judo Federation and the European Judo Union—as well as state bodies, the Olympic Committee, and the national sports administration.
Judo is considered one of Israel’s most successful sports and was the discipline that brought the country its first Olympic medals, in medalists Yael Arad and Oren Smadja, at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. Since then, the sport has become a leading Israeli arena, achieving impressive results on the international stage—from World Championships and Grand Slam tournaments to the Olympic Games.
The association operates Israel’s national teams across all age groups, organizes the Israeli Championships, and leads training and certification programs for coaches, instructors, and referees in partnership with official sports institutions. Today, the association includes more than 6,000 registered athletes aged 10 and above, active in clubs throughout the country.
Beyond athletic achievement, judo serves as an important educational tool for cultivating values of respect, self-control, humility, perseverance, and friendship. It helps children and young people across Israel develop personal resilience, responsibility, and self-discipline through sport.
