Docaviv is Israel’s leading organization in the field of documentary cinema, dedicated to promoting, nurturing, and making documentary filmmaking accessible to a broad general audience. The organization provides a central platform for documentary creators and advances innovative, critical, and courageous work that explores the boundaries of the genre

The flagship of its activity is the Docaviv Festival—the largest documentary film festival in Israel and one of the most respected in the world. Each year, the festival presents more than 130 new films from Israel and abroad through a range of competitions, including the Israeli Competition, the International Competition, the Short Film Competition, and the Student Competition. Docaviv awards Israel’s most prestigious prizes for original documentary creation and has also earned international recognition: since 2018, the festival has been included among the world’s leading festivals whose award winners are eligible to submit for Academy Award consideration

Throughout the year, the organization works to support emerging filmmakers through initiatives such as DocoYoung and additional educational programs. In order to make documentary cinema accessible to as wide an audience as possible, it also holds regional festivals—Docaviv Galilee in Ma’alot-Tarshiha and Docaviv Negev in Yeruham—alongside screenings and cultural programming in cultural centers throughout Israel

In addition, the organization operates Docaviv Cinema, which screens outstanding documentary films year-round, as well as DocuStream, an online platform that provides digital access to leading documentary works
